President Obama Signs Amended Judicial Redress Act of 2015

ACC Position:

On February 24, President Obama signed the Judicial Redress Act of 2015 into law, following its passage by congress in early February. The Act serves as a critical step in restoring trans-Atlantic personal data exchange following the invalidation of the Safe Harbor program by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in October 2015.

In December 2015, ACC sent a letter urging the Senate leadership to pass the Act, emphasizing the importance of the Safe Harbor to our members’ clients. The bill’s passage should be helpful for securing European approval of the newly proposed “Privacy Shield” as a Safe Harbor replacement.
