ACC Recommends DC Bar Not Change Outside Counsel Guidelines

ACC Position:

On June 28th, ACC and its National Capitol Region chapter submitted comments to the District of Columbia Bar’s Rules of Professional Conduct Review Committee, regarding client-generated engagement letters and outside counsel guidelines. The Committee is considering whether to regulate the extent to which clients may contractually require lawyers to expand the scope of conflicts of interest or indemnities. ACC argues that such regulations are unnecessary, as outside counsel already have the right to refuse terms that they feel are overly restrictive or potentially violate rules of professional conduct.
